Essential Technical Parameters

  • Pitch circle: The theoretical circle where gears mesh and transfer motion
  • Diametral pitch: Number of teeth per inch of pitch diameter
  • Module: Metric measurement of tooth size and spacing
  • Pressure angle: Angle determining load distribution and gear strength
  • Addendum & dedendum: Tooth height above and below pitch circle
  • Common pressure angles include 14.5° for smooth, quiet operation and 20° for enhanced tooth strength and higher load capacity, each influencing performance characteristics and noise levels.

Common Spur Gear Manufacturing Process

For spur gears, hobbing is the most common and cost-effective method for external gears in medium to large quantities.
For internal gears or shoulder-limited designs, shaping or broaching is required.
If high accuracy or low noise is required, shaving or grinding will be applied after cutting.
